The agreement will expand VietJet sales channels, making it possible for customers or travel agencies to book VietJet flights through the Amadeus system and receive real-time confirmation. The deal will also enable VietJet to introduce interline partnerships.
Lưu Đức Khánh, VietJet’s Managing Director, said, “This partnership paves the way for VietJet’s entry into a truly global marketplace. Travel agents and customers from the Asia Pacific region and beyond, such as the Eastern Europe and North America regions, now have a convenient way to book connecting flights with VietJet and enjoy service from the friendliest airline in the skies. Our partnership with Amadeus complements our existing infrastructure to further drive our expansion plans for both domestic and international routes.”
Khánh said in an interview with Asian Aviation in May that VietJet was in talks with GDSs and planned to introduce interlining.
“There is more work, more complexity – but in the exchange you have more passengers. Then if and when we go long haul, we have a passenger base,” he said in the interview. The LCC is studying the possibility of launching long-haul services later this decade.
Hazem Hussein, EVP, Airline Commercial, Amadeus Asia Pacific, added, “We are proud to be chosen as the first global distribution provider for VietJet, an airline with a strong business development strategy and e-commerce focus for optimum user experience. We remain committed to expanding our low cost carrier (LCC) content to offer the best and most relevant content to our travel agency customers.”
VietJet has selected the Amadeus e-Ticket Server to manage the airline’s interline partnerships to serve markets in Vietnam and in the region.
