Hawker Pacific NZ Limited achieves SMS certification

·       First aviation company to be certified in NZ
·       Hawker Pacific’s global experience and comprehensive safety procedures and processes recognised

Hawker Pacific NZ Limited (HPNZ) has achieved a notable milestone in becoming the first aviation company in New Zealand to be certified by the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA) under Civil Aviation Rule (CAR) Part 100. Hawker Pacific NZ was also the first company to achieve Part 147 certification (Maintenance Training) in-country, continuing to lead the way in Aviation Safety.

CAA has recently implemented Rule Part 100 which requires organisations holding operational certificates to implement and become certificated as having a Safety Management System (SMS) in place.

“Hawker Pacific NZ is proud to be leading the way as the first aviation company to achieve Safety Management System accreditation,” Doug Park, Chief Operating Officer, Hawker Pacific said.

“HPNZ were in the fortunate position that our sister companies in Australia and Asia have previously achieved certification to SMS. The global nature of the Hawker Pacific business instils a commonality of procedures and processes across all business units. This meant the basis of the procedures and processes associated with this certificate were extant in our operating systems allowing HPNZ to be viewed as a company advanced in the development toward SMS application.”

CAA used the mature Hawker Pacific SMS as an opportunity to develop and test their own skills and processes prior to going live with other NZ based clients.

“Notwithstanding the benefit of the baseline material, the process toward certification still required a considerable effort, Mr Park said. “Some corporate documents required enhancement for the NZ framework, compliance matrices required further development and personnel needed to be up-skilled plus system testing.”

“Robert Feasey, our Quality and Systems Manager for Hawker Pacific New Zealand did an excellent job overseeing the certification process. Robert ensured a professional rapport with the CAA project team thereby ensuring thereby ensuring a seamless transition.”
